Griffith Business School (GBS) Student Leaders experienced the School’s ethos of global responsibility firsthand during a unique community engagement project in Cambodia. The trip, which saw the students immersing themselves in Cambodian culture before working with the local community, helped participants gain a deeper understanding of their role in the global environment.

During the first week, the enthusiastic group of Leaders explored the Cambodian landscape, indulged in local delicacies, and embraced the vibrant culture. In the second week, they dedicated their time to teaching extra-curricular activities to schoolchildren, leaving a lasting impact on the local community.

Government and International Relations student, Ashleigh Price, expressed her profound gratitude for the opportunity: “This once-in-a-lifetime experience is one I will truly never forget. The entire trip was amazing. The new experiences I got to have, and the new friends I was able to make will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

For Ashleigh, the volunteer work at the school was particularly moving:

It is such a good feeling knowing that we have made a real impact on these kids’ lives. We are so privileged living here in Australia, and having the ability to immerse ourselves in a less fortunate culture puts everything into perspective.”

Bachelor of Business student, Laura King, echoed the sentiment of growth and gratitude: “To be able to travel with purpose and make a difference in another community is such a special opportunity. It has taught me valuable skills and given me lasting memories that I’ll carry forth throughout my career and life.”

The project was supported by GBS Student Development Coordinator, Joanne Fairclough, who expressed immense pride in the Student Leaders praising their commitment and spirit stating:

I am incredibly proud of our Student Leaders. They serve as true ambassadors of change, exemplifying the values of responsible leadership and global citizenship.”

Joanne emphasised the significance of such transformative experiences in shaping a generation of leaders who are not only accomplished in their fields but also driven by a sense of global citizenship.

With a firm commitment to nurturing responsible leadership and empowering students to create a positive impact on the world, GBS hosts a range of extracurricular opportunities that support their journeys of personal and professional growth.
