Griffith University’s Institute for Glycomics will host its annual Grand Ball Night on Saturday 12 October at RACV Royal Pines Resort. The elegant black-tie affair will be presented by Griffith alumni Eva Milic from Channel 9 Gold Coast News, one of the Media Partners for this year’s event.
Hundreds of high-profile, influential guests from Gold Coast and surrounding areas will enjoy a lavish three course meal and drinks package, including live entertainment from the Hanlon Brothers, exciting raffle prizes, and both a live and silent auction.
Guests will also be entertained by a special feature comedy act from Arj Barker, expected to be one of the highlights of the night. Arj is Australia’s adopted son of comedy and a regular on Australian television, from his role playing Dave on the hit show Flight of the Concords, to appearances on The Project, Just for Laughs, and everything in between. Arj has a worldwide following; as a stand-up he won the coveted Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and has performed regular sell-out seasons at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
“This year’s Ball promises to be an event to remember,” commented Professor Mark von Itzstein AO, Director of the Institute for Glycomics. “Every dollar raised on the night will go directly towards our research into finding new cures and preventions for debilitating childhood diseases, examples of which include childhood cancers, virus-induced diseases such as croup, influenza, hand, foot and mouth disease and respiratory stress caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), as well as bacteria-induced middle ear infections, and malaria.”
“Our focused research in these areas will lead tothe discovery and development of new drugs, vaccines and diagnostics to combat such diseases, providing hope for the future of our children.”
The 2019 Institute for Glycomics Grand Ball Night has already attracted some high-level event partners from the Gold Coast community including Platinum Partner, Kollosche; Major Partners, Porsche Centre Gold Coast, Morse Building Consultancy, and VO Creative Agency; and Media Partners, Channel 9 Gold Coast News, Gold Coast Bulletin and Luke Marsden Photography.
