Griffith Business School is helping bridge the graduate employability gap with their innovative BusinessPLUS program. The educational add-on available to all who study within Griffith Business School gives students the opportunity to participate in a range of extra-curricular activities and seminars aimed at increasing graduate employability. Upon finishing all the BusinessPLUS requirements, students will reap the rewards of a range of professional development activities they can add to their resumes.

The program features a series of career management workshops, industry-relevant mentoring programs, practical work experience and community volunteering opportunities, and a range of activities aimed at enhancing students’ personal and professional growth. All these things combined not only bolster students’ CVs but also equips them with practical experience to boost their future job prospects.

With many employers increasingly looking for graduates with more than just a degree under their belt, the professional development opportunities BusinessPLUS provides couldn’t have come at a better time.

Bachelor of Business/Bachelor International Business student Vanessa Chan signed up for the program earlier this year and has already found the activities she’s completed so far have benefited her enormously.

“[BusinessPLUS] gives me a better understanding of what employers are looking for and gives me a better idea on what I need to do and what I can do to make myself more employable,” she says.

Employer Simon Gibson, who is Oceania Campus Operations Manager (Talent) from Ernst & Young, agrees. “Getting involved with [extracurricular] activities can help students improve skills such as time management, teamwork and taking initiative, all while building confidence and communication skills,” he says. “These are some of the attributes we look for in future staff and I encourage all students to take part wherever possible.”

BusinessPLUS also made an impact with Bachelor of Business student Joel Petty. “The most beneficial thing about the series was not only the content covered in class, but also the thinking process it sparked. I found myself putting more thought into careers and what steps to consider and take to ensure I am getting the most back on my investment to study.”
