The building of great cities will be boosted with the launch of Griffith University's new Cities Research Centre.

It started 25 years ago as a single building among bushland on the edge of town. But today Griffith University has a thriving Gold Coast campus in possibly the most exciting university precinct in the world.

In the first project of its kind in Australia for an operating light rail system, the City of Gold Coast has teamed up with Griffith University to set up an ongoing study to monitor the light rail corridor, and measure the impacts of the trams.

Visitors to Griffith’s Open Day on the Gold Coast campus have the chance to travel there free on the light rail.
