The Griffith University Innocence Project (GUIP) has appointed four new advisory board members including a solicitor involved in the recent exoneration of Kathleen Folbigg.
Rhanee Rego played a crucial role in the post-conviction review process for Ms Folbigg, who was acquitted in 2023, having spent 20 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of killing her four infant children.

Ms Rego started working on Ms Folbigg’s case when she was still at university – and simply never stopped – demonstrating her tireless devotion to rectifying one of the worst miscarriages of justice in recent times.
Award-winning journalist and author Estelle Blackburn OAM CitWA CF was also appointed to the GUIP Advisory Board.
Ms Blackburn’s investigative work, notably in ‘Broken Lives’, led to the exoneration of two wrongfully convicted men in Western Australia.
Her contributions to justice and journalism have earned her the Medal of Order of Australia and a Walkley Award.

Stephen Keim SC was a founding member and head of chambers at Higgins Chambers in Brisbane and also practises from Republic Chambers in Hobart and Michael Kirby Chambers in Perth.

He has received numerous accolades, including the 2021 Law Council of Australia President’s Award for his unwavering dedication to justice and human rights advocacy.
