The Griffith Film School will showcase the work of its graduates in a series of free film screenings from August 31 to September 28 as part of the Queensland College of Art Griffith University 125th anniversary celebrations.

The Griffith Film School Showcase features documentaries, features and short films and animations from QCA graduates. After the screenings, audience members are invited to talk to the filmmakers about the making of their films.

Faramarz K-Rahbe’s SBS documentary Fair Dinkum Manjit, the story of cab-driver Manjit’s dream to make a Bollywood film clip will begin the festivities on August 31, followed by various animations from Melbourne-based animators Ann-Marie Denham and Kelly Lynagh (Big Kidz Entertainment) on September 7.

The international award-winning documentary from veteran film-maker Wayne Coles-Janess – In the Shadow of the Palms, about the lives of Iraqi people living under Saddam Hussein’s regime will be screened on September 14.

Shortlisted for a 2004 Academy Award, Inheritance: A Fisherman’s Story by Peter Hegedus will be shown on September 21. The documentary chronicles the life of fisherman Balazs Meszaros, whose way of life is irrevocably altered when 120,000 tons of cyanide water escapes from an Australian-Romanian mining company’s operations in Baia Mare, destroying the river. Peter’s short drama starring Secret Life of Us star Samuel Johnson, Hole in the Wall, will also be screened.

Davida Allen’s short feature Feeling Sexy (1998) starring Suzie Porter will conclude the film showcase on September 28.
