Griffith University will showcase work by creative arts students, alumni and faculty at Bleach* Festival over the next 10 days.
The packed program of art, design and music is part of a three-year partnership deal with Bleach* Festival — the Gold Coast’s premiere arts and culture event.
Art and design showcase
The Bleach* at Burleigh hub will feature the Griffith Remarkable Zone, which showcases a range of art and design work by students and faculty from the Queensland College of Art. There is everythingfrom eye-catching graphic design work to interactive light and sound sculptures and a range of augmented and virtual reality designs.
Queensland College of Art Director Professor Derrick Cherrie said Griffith’s partnership with Bleach* Festival would provide a remarkable opportunity for students involved in the creative arts at Griffith.
“Griffith has been recognised as the number one creative arts university in Australia and the Queensland College of Art is home to the country’s most exciting art and design talent,” he said.
“This world-class event will provide a fantastic showcase for our students, faculty and alumni.”
Music for the masses
Also appearing on the program at Burleigh will be a blockbuster Pub Choir event by Queensland Conservatorium alumnus Astrid Jorgensen.
The talented singer and choral specialist graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium with a Master of Music Studies (Vocal Performance) in 2011, after winning the Griffith Award for Academic Excellence.
“The Con was an amazing place to study,” she said.
“I loved being with other people who were equally passionate about music, and I had fantastic teachers.
“It also gave me a chance to get some contemporary performance experience — I don’t think I could lead Pub Choir without that training.”
Queensland Conservatorium popular music alumni Ella Fence, Elska, Sarah Frank and Pink Matter will also keep audiences entertained at the Bleach* at Burleigh hub.
‘Once in a lifetime’ opportunities
Griffith University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Engagement), Professor Martin Betts, said the partnership with Bleach* Festival would provide a range of once in a lifetime opportunities for students involved in the creative arts at Griffith.
“Our partnership with Bleach* Festival gives our students absolute access and participation in a world-class event,” he said.
Bleach* Festival Artistic Director and CEO Louise Bezzina, herself a Griffith alumnus, said the partnership would provide opportunities for students across the university, from marketing and events management to urban planning.
“We are thrilled that Griffith University has come on board as our major partner over the next three years,” she said.
“It’s more than just a logo on a program, it will provide great practical outcomes for students, from performance opportunities and internships.”
