Griffith Health student Emma McKeon is celebrating after being part of Australia’s Olympic gold-medal winning 4x100m women’s relay swimming team in Rio.
Emma is joined by fellow GriffithOlympian Madi Wilson as a gold medalist for the event after Madi competed in the heats.
Emma swam alongside team mates Cate andBronte Campbell and Brittany Elmslie to set a world mark of 3:30.65 in the final to defend their title won at the 2012 London Games.
The Public Health and Health Promotion student has not only won a gold medal for the team event but has also qualified for the individual 100m butterfly final as well.
Other Griffith students have also been immersed in the first few days of the Rio Olympic Games.
Matildas soccer players Tameka Butt (Business and Marketing student) , Elise Kellond-Knight (Pharmacy) and Clare Polkinghorne (Criminology and Criminal Justice) played inAustralia’s loss to Canada on Thursday and 2-2 draw with Germany Sunday.
Shannon Parry (Education graduate) is part of the Women’s Sevens Rugby team that has won both its opening matches against Colombia and Fiji. Update: Shannon wins gold.
Adam Imer (Physiotherapy) is playing for the Brazil hockey team which lost its opening game against Spain 7-0.
