Three Griffith professors have been honoured with Fellowships of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia;
- Professor Stephen Billett, Professor of Adult and Vocational Education, School of Education and Professional Studies;
- Professor John Kane, Professor, School of Government and International Relations; and
- Professor Adrian Wilkinson, Professor of Employment Relations and Director, Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing.
Fellows are elected to the Academy by their peers on the basis of a distinguished contribution to one or more of the Social Sciences that has also been recognised internationally.
Vice Chancellor and President of Griffith University, Professor Ian O’Connor is delighted by the appointments.
“The election of Professors Billett, Kane and Wilkinson as Fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia is a very well deserved recognition of their outstanding research and scholarly contributions,” Professor O’Connor said.
These three Griffith appointments are among just 30new Fellows appointed to the Academy this year.
Professor Wilkinson from Griffith Business School’s Centre for Work, Organisation and Wellbeing is now one of only a few people in the world to be both an Australian Academy Fellow and an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (UK).
“I am very honoured that my colleagues have elected me to the Academy. I appreciate that this Fellowshipcontributesto the recognition of employment relations research in the social sciences,” Professor Wilkinson said.
Professor Kane from the School of Government and International Relationsis also delighted by the honour.
“Being part of the Academy brings with it, not only the honour of being a Fellow but also the role of further promoting the social sciences.”
Professor Billett from the School of Education and Professional Studies said the social sciences are profoundly important for the progress of our society.
“This fellowship is deeply rewarding and acknowledges the standing and the contribution of research into learning and education in Australian society.
The new Fellows will be formally welcomed to the Academy and presented with testamurs in Canberra on Tuesday, November 17.
