Elite Student Ambassador and Australian Olympian, Riley Day, will join participants on the Trail Run.

Hundreds are expected to hit the ground running at Griffith’s annual Toohey Trail Run, Sunday 9 October, and the call is out for more to join the bitumen to bush challenge.

Elite Student Ambassador and Australian Olympian Riley Day said the iconic community Fun Run provides an exciting all-terrain course.

“The lush Toohey Forest surrounding Griffith provides an opportunity for people with different levels of fitness, with three track runs (5km, 10km and 21.1km) winding through the beautiful state protected reserve,” Ms Day said.

“Runners will be supported with hydration stations along the track and the morning will be packed with entertainment including the Red Bull DJ, Giant Games, Sponsor Stalls & Massage.

“For those who would rather walk, there’s no expectation to take the run too seriously, and there’ll be novelty prizes for the highest fundraiser, the best team spirit, and the best dressed.

“So definitely, get out there and enjoy the morning.”

The Griffith Sport Events Team is donating five dollars from every entry to Diabetes Australia and is proud to report $6000 was donated to Diabetes Australia from last year’s event.

Diabetes Australia – Queensland CEO Adjunct Professor Sue Hawes said the Toohey Trail Run has been supporting Diabetes Australia via Diabetes Queensland since 2017.

“Participating in the Toohey Trail Run is a great way for people to increase their physical activity and stay healthy,” Professor Hawes said.

“If you sign up to fundraise, you’ll be helping us to fund research to find a cure, prevent more people from developing diabetes, and support people with the condition to live long and healthy lives.

“There are almost 300,000 Queenslanders living with all types of diabetes and the funds raised through the Toohey Trail Run help us support people to live well with diabetes.

“To support the Trail fundraisers, Good Price Pharmacy Warehouse has donated an iRobot Roomba 670 vacuum for the person who raises the most funds for Diabetes Australia.

“Every dollar raised makes a difference to people living with diabetes.”
