When Ryan Mitchell found out he’d won the Logan Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) Scholarship he was both thrilled and relieved.

“It really takes a weight off my shoulders so I can focus on studying and my goals,” he says. “It was quite exciting!”

The Scholarship was created to assist Logan-based students who graduated from a high school within the Logan City local government boundaries in reaching their full potential.

The winner receives $15,000 over the course of three years to help with their educational goals.

Ryan, who is completing a Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice/Bachelor of Government and International Relations, is aiming high when it comes to life after graduation and says the scholarship will be invaluable. “My long term goal is to work as an intelligence officer with the ASIO and my Bachelor of Criminology and Bachelor of Government and International relations can help me get there,” he explains.

“Short term I plan on working my way up in the police force and criminology degrees have a lot of value there; you can learn how to pick up trends and processes related to crime. That, combined with the International Relations degree opens your mind up to a global perspective.

“You can look at how different political processes happen and about a country’s political makeup, which will all be really useful.”

Bendigo Bank spokesperson Lachlan Stewart says the organisation is pleased to be making a difference in students’ lives.

“The Logan Community Bendigo Bank partnered with Griffith University to activate a Scholarship Program that enables more people in our community to access high quality education,” Lachlan says.

“Individuals, families and the wider community are strengthened everytime a Scholarship recipient is able to apply their newly acquired knowledge and pursue a previously unobtainable

career pathway. The Logan Community Bendigo Bank have contributed significantly to the education sector in Logan and the great thing is that we are able to keep creating opportunities like this because people continue to support us by doing their banking with us.

“Congratulations Ryan Mitchell.”
