Ina bid to help nurture the future of the journalism and media professions, Griffith University has been awarded five $40,000 Regional Journalism Scholarships funded by the Federal Government.
The grants will assist students from regional or remote areas to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become effective journalists in the contemporary news media industry.
School of Humanities, Languages and Social Sciences Head Professor James Carson said the scholarships, awarded to first-year students enrolled in a Bachelor of Journalism and Communication, were testament to the quality of journalism taught at Griffithand a commitment to ensuring regional journalism remains an important voice in the national conversation.
“Our journalism lecturers are industry experts with a wealth of knowledge and experience,” Professor Carson said.
“The Regional Scholarships will stand successful applicants in good stead when looking for work in the competitive media industry. I encourage all those living in regional or remote areas thinking of studying journalism to apply.”
