For Bachelor of Physiotherapy student Tiana Holder, the Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run is an auspicious occasion as it’s the final day of her 365-day exercise challenge.
“I decided to take up this goal as I had been doing various fitness programs without finishing any of them,’’ she says.
“So I set myself the challenge of doing some form of exercise every day, whether running, cycling or cross-fit. The Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run is the perfect way to finish as I want to end it with a bang!”
Tiana has documented her fitness journey on Instagram and told her family and friends what she was planning. “That meant I was accountable and had more motivation to do it,” she says.
Was she tired of having to exercise every single day? “Well, it became a habit and I began to crave it,’’ she says.
Tiana is one of more than 500 runners and walkers taking part in this year’s fun run held on June 17.
The stunning cross-country course takes in some of the most scenic areas of the Griffith University Logan campus through the Aboretum and Lake Ellerslie, and through parklands and paddocks.
“So whether it’s a 5km or 10km run or the 1km Junior Dash, there’s something for everyone,’’ says Griffith Sport Event Manager Jamie Hedge.
Also helping make the fun run a great day for all involved is student ambassador and Australia’s 2015 and 2016 400m champion Jack Geary (pictured right) who is in his first year of a Bachelor of Business.
His race day tips for runners are:
- Stay hydrated before and after racing
- Always stretch to avoid any injuries (before and after racing)
- Be sure to warm up before the race to help your muscles be ready to tackle the race
- Relax your body when you run, especially your face and shoulders
- Control your breaking — this will help reduce fatigue early in the race
Jack encourages Griffith students to run/walk together in groups and take advantage of discounts for team entries.
AEIOU Foundation official charity partner
The AEIOU Foundation is again the official charity partner for the Griffith Sport Logan Fun Run. Last year’s run raised more than $2000 for the AEIOU Foundation.
The run starts at 7.45am on Sunday, June 17, from Griffith’s Logan campus. The presenting partner is Bendigo Bank with Logan City Council and Stockland also supporting partners.
