Griffith’s STEM Showcase hits the road again

Professor George Mellick.

Griffith University will take some of their best names in STEM research (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) on the road to highlight the exciting career opportunities to students who study STEM disciplines around the state as part of the STEM Showcase.

A range of Griffith University experts with expertise in various STEM industries including engineering, environmental science, aviation, IT and urban planning will offer a valuable insight into the diverse programs offered at the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Logan campuses and how Griffith can make those dream careers a reality.

“The STEM Showcase is the only travelling showcase where prospective students in regional locations can ask an expert face to face who has relevant advice for their dream career,” Associate Professor Gui Lohmann said, who is the head of Aviation at Griffith University.

“For example, students who are interested in a career in aviation will discover that Griffith’s aviation degrees have been developed in conjunction with industry leaders, ensuring the needs of industry are met and our graduates have the skills employers want.”

Participants will also receive valuable one-on-one advice from each Griffith University expert on how best to place themselves in tomorrow’s job market as well as find out more about the diversity and uniqueness of Griffith’s STEM programs.

“The STEM Showcase is unique in that it travels around with representatives from the major STEM disciplines and gives everyone who comes along – students, teachers parents and those interested in further study – the chance to ask questions of the lecturers who teach in those disciplines,” Damian Harris said, who is managing the tours across Queensland and into the Northern Territory.

“We think the skill set that comes from studying STEM sets students up for the fast changing work environment they will be entering. To assist people on that journey is very fulfilling.”
