Queensland College of Art Director Message — July 2016

Derrick Cherrie, Director, Queensland College of Art

Welcome to the very first edition of the Queensland College of Art (QCA) newsletter, which features news about exhibitions, research, and alumni, and celebrates some great successes.

The QCA is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected art and design colleges with world-class facilities. Located in the heart of Queensland’s premier cultural precinct at South Bank and Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus, in state of the art, purpose-built premises, the QCA is a thriving community of artists, designers, animators, photographers, filmmakers, and creative art researchers, shaping both local and international art and design culture.

This newsletter is sent to you because of your interest in the Arts. It will be distributed quarterly and I hope that you find the articles useful and informative. This edition features our new purpose-built degrees that will prepare our students for the future: the Bachelor of Creative and Interactive Media; and the Bachelor of Design. We also celebrate our distinguished Alumni, Tony Albert, who was recently awarded the prestigious Fleurieu Art Prize, and bring you news of our international collaboration with art colleges in the UK and USA.

The success of our research, and the work of our staff and our students ultimately drives our College and we are very proud to bring you news of some of these achievements.

Derrick Cherrie
Director, Queensland College of Art
