As the official University of the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, students at Griffith have access to exclusive internships.

Many students have already taken up the opportunity, with some like Adil Rachidi securing a full time job after completing his internship with the engineering team.

In total 250 Griffith University students will officially join the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) through internship opportunities up to and during the staging of the Games.

There area number of internships with GOLDOCstarting in semester 2 that may be the perfect way to gain valuable employability skills.

The following positions are available:

Clinical Volunteer Workforce intern

The Clinical Volunteer Workforce intern will sit within the Resources function of the medical team and will see you assisting in the development of workforce plans for the Medical functional area at Games time. In conjuction with the clinical team you will contribute to the identification of roles, their responsibilities and how they fit within an overall workforce model to satisfy the requirements of the team at Games time.

This will involve extensive consultation with multiple functional areas and an understanding of each venue. For your efforts you will receive close mentoring and supervision from experts within the Medical field and an opportunity to apply your learned HR, planning and project skills in a large multi-sport event environment.

  • Internship period 1: 18 July – 7 October 2016
  • Internship period 2: 10 October 2016 – 13 January 2017

Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) intern

Participating across multiple functional areas you will assist the wider GOLDOC team to engage in initiatives surrounding the Reconciliation Action Plan, including identifying organisational needs, developing reporting systems and monitoring the effectiveness of outcomes associated with the RAP. The ideal intern will have strong writing skills, a passion for engaging stakeholders and an understanding of research methodologies and an interest in indigenous affairs.

The successful intern will be supported closely by the Manager, Reconciliation Action Plan gaining a birds-eye view of the organisation and the promotion of integral social initiatives in large corporate businesses.

Sustainabilityand Legacy intern
As part of the Sustainabilityand Legacy team at the games, interns will have the opportunity to develop social media messages and content to promote Sustainability internally and externally of GOLDOC. The intern will have the opportunity to learn about GRI reporting and the functions of a Sustainability area within a large organisation.

The successful student will have a passion for the environment and sustainability issues and in turn will contribute to the legacy of the Games and the future of the Gold Coast while working with international experts.

Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement intern

In this exciting space, the Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement intern will become part of the team that is responsible for attracting and recruiting 15 000 volunteers for the Games. You will use your highly developed promotion and engagement skills to develop methods of attracting and engaging the population of the Gold Coast to take part in this once in a lifetime event.

In return you will receive mentoring from large sporting event specialists with international experience, giving you the opportunity to see first hand how an event attracting 1.5 billion TV viewers comes together.

  • Internship period 2:10 October 2016 – 13 January 2017
