Dami Im finishes second in 2016 Eurovision Song Contest

Australian pop idol and Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University graduate Dami Im finished an unprecedented second place in the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest.

With a clear lead after the juries’ vote, Im was narrowly beaten by Ukraine’s Jamala.

Im performed her power balladSound of Silenceto a global audience of 200 million.

Queensland Conservatorium Director, Professor Scott Harrison said the conservatorium was proud to be associated with Dami’s vocal training, through the work of master teacher Dr Irene Bartlett.

“Dami is one of many Queensland Conservatorium graduates who are making their mark in the world of music in a wide range of genres,’’ he said.

“We look forward to celebrating with Dami on her return to Australia.”

Im is an award-winning pianist who won the popular reality television show The X Factor Australia in 2013. Her self-titled debut album reached number 1 on the ARIA charts, as did her lead single, Alive.
