International relations with Chukyo University (CKU), Japan, extend back to 1998 when the first Exchange Agreement was signed with Griffith University. Since then students from both institutions have participated in inbound and outbound study opportunities to enhance their degrees through a global learning experience.
Just prior to Easter, on Thursday 24 March, a CKU delegation led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr Kiyohide Umemura, visited Griffith’s Gold Coast campus for the first time. The visit was an ideal opportunity for Dr Umemura to personally meet with Griffith staff, so further potential collaborations could be discussed.
CKU are an important partner for Griffith, with significant relationships being established with the Griffith English Language Institute (GELI) and the International Business Development Unit (IBDU). Ms Sharon Bignell, Regional Manager (Japan, Korea & On-shore), Griffith International, who visited CKU in November 2015, noted that “Chukyo University is a forward-thinking university that understands the importance of English language skills and cultural understanding in today’s globalised world. Griffith is pleased to be strengthening our relationship with Chukyo to provide these valuable opportunities for their students.”
