For the first time in 20 years, every department within Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University will join together for one night of performance on Friday 30 October.
The Conservatorium Gala will fuse music, art and theatre in a unified celebration from almost 500 of the best of Brisbane’s emerging and established musical talent.
Featuring performances from Musical Theatre students; Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra; Opera Chorus; Ba-Da-Boom Percussion; Conservatorium Wind Orchestra; 18-piece big band, the Con Artists; and In-Voices; the Gala will allow audiences to experience everything the renowned institution has to offer.
Queensland Conservatorium Director, Professor Scott Harrison, says the decision to bring back this kind of event came from his own days as a student at the Queensland Conservatorium.
“This perennial favourite was something that students, staff and the community would anticipate as one of the highlights of the season — and this year is no different,” he says.
“It’s a true celebration of the beauty of music in all its forms and one that marries old traditions with new practices.”
The program also includes pre-show entertainment from the Saxophone Ensemble, an installation from Music Technology students and chambermusicensembles throughout the hallways, while Popular Music students Livvia and Jordan Pineda will share their talents in the foyer following the main event.
Culminating with the Brahms Academic Festival Overture and featuring excerpts from Les Misérables and Mascagni’s famous Intermezzo and Easter Hymn, the Gala is sure to delight and entertain music lovers of all ages.
