Dr Peter Martin is the 2015 Outstanding Arts, Education and Law Alumnus of the Year.

Queensland Police Service Assistant Commissioner (Brisbane Region),Dr Peter Martin was announced as the 2015 Outstanding Arts, Education and Law Alumnus of the Year at a ceremony in Brisbane on Friday, October 23.

“To find out I had been awarded the outstanding alumnus is extraordinarily surprising and incredibly humbling,” Dr Martin said.

“Much earlier in my career in the 1990s, I was an early adopter of tertiary education from a policing perspective and it was this association with Griffith University that has shaped me to be the person that I am today.

“Griffith University has been pivotal as a key success factor in my career. Ultimately my level and rank within the organisation I attribute to my commitment and to tertiary education, and in particular I thank Griffith University for that.”

With a career spanning more than 35 years, Dr Martin has made a significant contribution to policing and to the people of Queensland.

Appointed a Commissioned Officer in 1996, he was awarded the Australian Police Medal on Australia Day 2008.

Dr Martin has a Bachelor of Arts majoring in police studies and an Executive MBA from the Australian New Zealand School of Government and Griffith University. He is also an Adjunct Professor with the University of Queensland’s Institute of Social Science Research.

International DJ Tyson Ilingworth is the 2015 Young Outstanding Alumnus of the Year.

Los-Angeles based DJ Tyson Illingworth (tyDi) was awarded the 2015 Young Outstanding Alumnus of the Year for his outstanding contribution to the music industry. At aged 19, the Bachelor of Music Technology graduate released his first album “Look Closer” (2009) which reached No. 2 in the Australia Dance Charts.

His second album “Shooting Stars’ was released in 2011, reaching No. 1 on the Australian, Canadian, Finnish and UK iTunes dance charts. tiDy has been voted Australia’s number 1 DJ two years in a row and he has also been voted in the Top 100 DJ’s of the World for the past three years.

“It’s such an honour and congratulations to everyone who was nominated,’’ Tyson said.

Held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, the fifth annual AEL Alumni Awards recognise the achievements and successes of the Arts, Education and Law graduates.
