The Griffith University Surfers Paradise Rowing Club finished second on the medal table after the 2015 University Challenge and Griffith Regatta at Coomera Lake on Sunday (August 2).

More than 200 individual and crew scullers representing more than 20 education institutions and rowing clubs took part in 50 events throughout the day on the Gold Coast.

The Griffith outfit claimed five gold medals, four silver and eight bronze, finishing just behind the University of Queensland Boat Club’s tally of nine gold medals, four silver and two bronze.2015 University Challenge and Griffith Regatta

Griffith’s individual gold medal winners were Michael Stewart in the Men’s Masters Single Scull (Handicapped) and Austin Dipple in the Men’s Group 4 Single Scull, while Griffith crews also won the Women’s Masters Quad Scull, the Men’s Group 4 Double Scull and Women’s Masters Double Scull.

Trinity Lutheran College finished third on the day, with five gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

The annual regatta continues to gain in popularity, with a good crowd gathered lakeside to watch the races and enjoy the social atmosphere.

Griffith Sport will conduct two information sessions (11am-noon, 12.30pm-1.30pm) at Griffith University’s Open Day at the Nathan campus on Sunday, August 9.
