The Honourable Quentin Bryce AD CVO will officially open the Margaret Mittelheuser AMTradingRoom at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus on Tuesday morning (Feb 24).

Students of banking, finance and financial planning have been using the advanced trading room environment to access the Bloomberg Professional service since Griffith opened the doors of a new $38 million business building last August.

“It is entirely fitting that the new trading room is named after Margaret Mittelheuser who was the first woman to be registered as a stockbroker in Australia,” Professor Michael Powell, Pro Vice Chancellor (Business) said.

“She was a role model for women in the finance industry and had a profound impact on our community.”

Dr Mittelheuser AM DUniv was conferred with the Degree of Doctor of the University by Griffith in 2006, in acknowledgement of an extraordinary career and immense contribution to the Australian community. She died in December, 2013.

Dr Cathryn Mittelheuser AM, Margaret’s sister, will also be in attendance and will address the official ceremony.

Inspiration

“Margaret Mittelheuser’s name will be an inspiration to current and future students entering the trading room,” Professor Powell said.

“She had an avid interest in figures and listed stocks, and this interest led to a memorable and enduring career in the stock-broking profession in Brisbane, Sydney and overseas from the mid-1950s.”

Bloomberg LP is a global leader in business and financial information and its Bloomberg Professional service is a software platform to trusted real-time and historical market data, market moving news and analytics.

“Griffith University has continued to establish new international standards for teaching by providing students with access to a service used by more than 320,000 finance professionals around the world.”
Students are strongly positioned to carry out historical market analysis, compare different investment strategies, evaluate complex financial instruments and analyse specific companies and industries.

The former Governor-General, Dame Quentin Bryce, will officially open the Margaret Mittelheuser AMTradingRoom onTuesday (February 24, 11.15am) at a ceremony at the new business building (G42, 2.16).
