Budding triple-threat stars who dream of a life on stage now have the opportunity to receive professional training even before reaching university.
Queensland Conservatorium’sbrand new Foundation in Musical Theatrecourse will start in 2015 to offer a one year program devoted to enhancing skills for future study and performance.
According to the Head of Musical Theatre, Mr Paul Sabey, the full-time course will allow young performers to develop their talents and hone their skills under guidance from world-leading industry experts in a purpose built state-of-the-art facility.
“This is the first step for any one straight out of high school who wishes to pursue in-demand training for musical theatre,” he says.
“Experience will be gained through group classes, individual singing lessons, workshops and rehearsals encompassing acting, singing, jazz dance, ballet, theory and audition technique along with countless performance opportunities.
“Having access to incredible experts from all over the world, alongside assistance and support from peers studying the tertiary degree will prove invaluable and the ideal stepping stone into the industry.”
Queensland Conservatorium is currently home to Australia’s only Bachelor of Musical Theatre — a goal Mr Sabey sees for any students after the Foundation Course.
“Our degree commenced only four years ago and already our first cohort of graduates are working across the country in national productions such as Once, The King & I, Rolling Thunder and in venues including the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London)” he says.
“It really is a true commitment to ensuring that the top talent continues to come out of Australia completely equipped with the passion, drive and skills to perform in cabaret, theatre, television, film and musical theatre all over the world.”
