With National Science Week approaching, Griffith University’s Science on the GO! team has prepared a range of activities to entertain, excite and educate.
This year’s Australia-wide celebration of all things science and technology runs from August 16-24, with Science on the GO! appearing at the Gold Coast Science & Tech Fair at the Southport Broadwater Parklands on Saturday, August 16.
Then on Tuesday, August 19, Science on the GO! will host the 10th Annual Gold Coast Schools Science Trivia Challenge at the Queensland Academy for Health Sciences in Southport.
Featuring competitions for Years 6-7, Years 8-9, Years 10-12 and teachers, the trivia challenge comprises six rounds of eight questions and will be interspersed with entertainment and demonstrations.
Meanwhile, Science on the GO! and Griffith’s School of Information and Communication Technology will be exhibiting at the Brisbane Ekka tomorrow (August 14).
As well as presenting a science show on the Ekka’s main stage, Science on the GO! will conduct chemistry-interactive activities — think of bubbles, air pressure and physics – throughout the day.
The School of ICT will host demonstrations of humanoid robots that walk, avoid obstacles and even play football. Ekka patrons will have the opportunity to manoeuvre the robots using a remote control interface.
There will also be display videos monitoring the School’s involvement in the RoboCup international robotics competition.
Science on the GO! delivers outreach programs, events, professional development and teaching resources across primary, middle and senior school year levels.
