Phase one sees a financial trading room featuring state-of-the-art desktops equipped with the Bloomberg Professional service as a showpiece within the Griffith Business School’s new $38 million building at Griffith University’s Gold Coast campus.
Phase two will coincide with the start of the 2015 academic year, with additional Bloomberg Professional service subscriptions installed within the Nathan campus.
“Providing our students with access to the Bloomberg Professional service will place Griffith Business School as one of only two universities in Queensland, and among only a handful in Australia, to offer students the opportunity to access market data, news and analytics on such a large scale,” says Associate Professor Robert Bianchi of the Department of Accounting, Finance and Economics.
“Exposure to the Bloomberg Professional service reinforces classroom theory and provides Griffith University students and faculty a competitive edge,” says Mr Jeffrey Leckstein, Head of Bloomberg in Australia.
“Students have access to the news, financial information, research and tools used by more than 320,000 finance professionals globally, while professors can further their own academic research in business and finance.”
Using the Bloomberg service, students can perform historical market analysis, compare different investment strategies, evaluate complex financial instruments and analyse specific companies and industries.
The advanced trading room environment will complement the award-winning, best practice industry standards already at play at Griffith.
“No longer will students have static parameters set for project work assessment,” says Associate Professor Bianchi. “Instead we’ll create new learning outcomes that are dictated by real-life, evolving and ongoing financial shifts which can then be visualised through various Bloomberg analytics to enhance learning.”
