More medals add to Team Griffith tally

Day 8 update

Griffith University Vice Chancellor Professor Ian O’Connor has congratulated Team Griffith athletes on their achievements so far at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Those achievements continued today, Day 8 of the Games, when Kelsey Cottrell won a silver medal as part of Australia’s women’s triples lawn bowls team. The Australian team lost to England in today’s final.

Also, cyclist and Griffith alumnus Kat Garfoot won the bronze medal in the women’s individual time trial.

Today’s medals add to an impressive Team Griffith tally.

“Griffith’s Commonwealth Games athletes have been making national and international headlines and giving their loyal followers plenty to cheer about in the early hours of the morning,” says Professor O’Connor.

“It was particularly satisfying to see Griffith Business graduate Michael Shelley take out the gold medal in the marathon, one of the Games’ premier events.

“To date, the medal tally for our students and alumni is nine gold, five silver and seven bronze medals. If Griffith was competing as a nation, our gold medal tally would place us in eighth position.

“On behalf of the University, I congratulate all our Games competitors on their wonderful achievements.”
