One of Australia’s most awarded authors Frank Moorhouse AM will lead a creative writing retreat at Stradbroke Island for 10 Griffith University creative writing students this month.
Creative writing lecturer Dr Sally Breen said the School of Humanities Stradbroke Island Creative Writing Retreat was a once in a lifetime opportunity for young writers selected from the creative writing program.
“In a stimulating and inspiring island setting students work intensively on new work supported and guided by Frank Moorhouse, our writer-in-residence and creative writing staff,” she said.
“All writers dream of these kinds of opportunities – to escape from the pressures of everyday life to produce work and be mentored by a literary great – the School of Humanities creative writing program makes this dream a reality.”
Mr Moorhouse won the Miles Literary Award forDark Palace,the third instalment in The Edith trilogy, which was also shortlisted for the NSW and Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards and the Age Book of the Year Award. He was made a member of the Order of Australia for services to literature in 1985. He was awarded a Griffith University Honourary Doctorate in 1997.
The Stradbroke Island Creative Writing Retreat program has run for three years and previous mentors have included acclaimed writers Steve Amsterdam and MJ Hyland.
