Two students from Logan will be the fortunate recipients of a new scholarship to Griffith University provided by the Bendigo Bank’s Logan Community Branches.
With the value of each being $5000 per year for up to three years, the scholarship is aimed at students who reside in Logan and plan to study full time at Griffith’s Logan campus.
The two successful candidates for the scholarship can also expect to become local ambassadors of Logan Community Bank (Bendigo Bank) and Logan generally. As ambassadors they will be invited to take part in the Griffith University Future Student mentoring process where they will speak at promotional events.
Head of Griffith’s Logan Campus, Professor Lesley Chenoweth (pictured) said the new partnership with Bendigo was all about widening pathways to higher education within the local community.
“At Griffith, we are committed to supporting ways for people to attend university and this partnership with Bendigo Bank is a wonderful alignment with our wider agenda.
“Higher education figures within the Logan community are particularly low with only 9.5 per cent of people possessing a degree compared to the greater Brisbane region.
“Griffith’s Logan campus offers some leading degree programs in areas such as nursing, midwifery, social work, accounting, finance and IT and as such we hope that this new initiative goes some way to supporting people’s career aspirations.â€
“The Bendigo Bank has a commitment to putting local banking returns back into the immediate community,†said Jason Luckhardt, chair of community projects at Bendigo.
Applications for the Bendigo Bank Scholarships close on 25 January 2013.
