History in making for midwifery

Griffith midwifery student Jess Freedman has been involved in making history following the birth of baby Marco to his proud parents Ninu and Branco.

Arriving by water birth, Marco was the first baby to be born at the Gold CoastHospital under new arrangements which provide visiting rights for midwives.

The pregnancy was overseen by Griffith midwifery lecturer Stephanie Oliver and first year student Jess Freedman.

“It was fantastic to be involved in the ongoing care of the family and follow the new continuity of care model which is being advocated within the profession,” said Jess. “There are great benefits for a woman to have the same midwife throughout her pregnancy and birth.”
