Does technology make us safer?

Does surveillance technology make us safer and are we less concerned about personal privacy? Professor Ross Homel spoke with Radio National about the use of CCTV in the fight against crime.

Professor Homel said that CCTV can have a preventative effect in specific environments such as buses and carparks where there more control or restrictions. He said that generally speaking the best value in CCTV was for catching the offender after the event.
