In the face of 40kph headwinds and gusty rain, triumphant Griffith University rowers returned from the Australian University Games in Adelaide with two medals.
The lightweight double of Dylan Goldspring and Brendan Fischer competed in the ‘A’ Final of the Double Scull and the pair also backed up in the LW Coxless Four, joining Cameron Harrison and Cameron Rumball, who motored down the course in incredibly trying conditions to secure a hard fought bronze medal.
The squad finished the Games in equal 10th in the medal tally — an incredible feat for a squad of just four rowers.
“To put it in perspective, we tied with the University of South Australia who boated a squad of more than 20 rowers, so it was quite an achievement for our guys,” said Head Coach Gordon Cameron.
“September 28 marks the day that four young men representing Griffith University for the first time at the Australian University Games Rowing Regatta rowed in three ‘A’ Finals and recorded a fourth, a third and a second.”
