PhD Candidate Receives Prime Minister’s Award

PhD student receives prestigious Prime Minister’s Award

GAI PhD student Neelesh Gounder has been chosen to receive a Prime Minister’s Pacific Australia Award (PMPA).

The PMPA program aims to assist nation building and strengthen institutional capacity and leadership in the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea and East Timor. Additionally the program builds abiding people to people links between Australia and the region. This prestigious Award will enhance Neelesh’s leadership skills and knowledge, and contribute to development within the Asia Pacific region.

Neelesh was chosen to receive an Award because of his sustained academic achievement, contribution to community and university activities, demonstrated leadership capacity, and the relevance of his proposed work placement to his academic studies, future employment, and the development of his home country.The PMPA Award provides access to a range of activities that includes an in-Australia work placement and a leadership development component.

Neelesh will travel to Canberra on the 6 December 2012 to receive his award from the Prime Minister.
