Alumnus becomes Deputy Premier

Griffith University Vice-Chancellor Professor Ian O’Connor has warmly congratulated graduate The Hon. Andrew Fraser on becoming Deputy Premier of Queensland.

Mr Fraser, elected today to the State’s second-in-command role by the Queensland Labor caucus, was an outstanding student, gaining a Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Commerce with first class Honours in 1999 and winning the University Medal for academic excellence.

His involvement with the University was ongoing, Professor O’Connor said.

“Andrew has always been a great supporter of the University and its students, giving his time generously in support of those who are studying here and contemplating doing so.

“We are proud that the knowledge and distinction he gained at Griffith contributed to his rise in the public arena. Treasurer and Deputy Premier is one of the most influential and significant political offices in Australia.

“We wish him the very best in his new role and warmly congratulate him on the achievement.”
