For the first time in Australia students completing a university degree will graduate with a real estate licence, through Griffith University’s new Bachelor of Real Estate and Property Development.
Program Convenor Professor Michael Davidson said through the new degree program students would graduate having completed the licence requirements from the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ).
REIQ professional services Executive Manager Sarah Gray said Griffith’s new degree was an excellent option for anyone serious in pursuing a career in either real estate or property development.
“The degree has been developed through consultation with the property development industry and REIQ. It will provide an excellent foundation for anyone seriously contemplating real estate or property development as a profession,” Ms Gray said.
Professor Davidson said Griffith was approached by both the real estate and property development industries to develop the program.
“Southeast Queensland is the property development and real estate capital of Australia and enormous growth is expected over the next 20 years and beyond,” Professor Davidson said.
“Now more than ever there is a demand for qualified property managers, and the new degree will help meet that demand.
“There are so many job opportunities available for graduates and there are likely to be even more jobs created in the future.”
Professor Davidson said the unique program combined courses from academic areas across the university to provide students with a complete overview of the skills required in the real estate and property development industries.
“While the degree has a strong business focus, it also includes engineering, environmental planning, science and law courses,” Professor Davidson said.
Industry experts will work with Griffith staff in delivering lectures and students have the opportunity to complete 250 hours industry experience throughout the degree.
The new Bachelor of Business (Real Estate and Property Development) will be offered through Griffith’s Gold Coast campus from Semester 1, 2008. For more information visit our Real Estate and Property Development website
