Griffith launches legal training on the Coast

Due to demand Griffith University is launching a new course to help people on the Gold Coast qualify to practice law in Queensland.

Griffith Legal Practice Centre Director Janine McMaster-Kirkwood said people applying for admission as legal practitioners in Queensland were required to complete practical legal training (PLT).

“PLT is now compulsory and the first students to take advantage of the new course start today,” Ms McMaster-Kirkwood said.

“Due to student demand and interest in the program, we have been working with the student body on the Gold Coast to develop a program to meet their needs.

“We have a full-time on-campus option and a part-time online program which Gold Coast employers may be interested in for their graduate lawyers or trainees.”

A Graduate Certificate program which meets the requirements of a traineeship will also be offered online.

Both the certificate program and PLT will be offered each semester.

Ms McMaster-Kirkwood said the new course was also likely to attract students to the Gold Coast from northern New South Wales.
