Comix new show to entertain Coasties

Hot on the heels of its success at the recent Byron Bay Blues Festival the Gold Coast Comix! theatre group will offer an evening of fun and frolic at Surfers Paradise restaurant Focus on Tuesday, May 23.

A collaboration between current Griffith University students and graduates of the Gold Coast Theatre Department, the troupe will perform their new show, Surface Paradiso, which combines stand-up comedy, sketch and physical and improvised comedy with live music.

Griffith Theatre Studies Senior Lecturer Dr Mike Foster said the show’s concept emphasised interactivity with opportunities for audience members to become involved in the troupe’s antics.

Featured acts include graduate David Eastgate, just back from a successful engagement as the lead street entertainer at Universal Studios, Osaka, Japan. He is supported by Nick Stewart (lead guitarist of band George) and a talented cast. David’s stable of characters includes a geriatric rock star, a wannabe roadie and a demented Scotsman.

“Acts include the popular ‘Menu’ where a cast of bizarre characters entertain ‘diners’ with maximum energy at the table,” Dr Foster said.

“The new show features a live band on stage throughout the night with two new cast members in a brand new venue so why would you miss it.”
